Overall, I give All the Wrong Chords by Christine Hurley Deriso 3 out of 5 stock photos of people who probably don’t know how to play the guitar. Plus, the inclusion of song lyrics slightly won me over in the end.
For example, there is a scene where the main character, Scarlett, mentions teasing her Indian best friend about his parents in a “bad Indian accent,” and a lot of Scarlett’s actions rub me the wrong way in an “I can’t relate much to this character at all,” sort of way.īut I still recommend it, if you’re willing to overlook certain parts, because the romance in this is worth it, and Scarlett does have a (slight) redemption, and at some times it has a deeply moving take on what it feels like to lose someone close and realize there were things you didn’t know about them. In fact, there was a lot that made me very uncomfortable. I will say this: there is a lot I did dislike about All the Wrong Chords, too. There’s also a lot to be said about grief and learning how to move on after the death of a loved one and a good deal of it resonated with me.
I think its debut time is perfect to help warm you up in the winter holiday season and get you wishing the first days of spring were that much closer.
